Any suggestion as to what this may mean, other than the obvious.
I've looked at the Wordpress dashboard and really can't find a way to "nuture" it via my admin.

It means you've not added any widgets to your sidebar
From the Dashboard go to Appearance > Widgets and start populating the widget areas
