Drop Down Menus

I'm currently using Pages, Galleries and Index.  I use Pages to create the top level page that accesses the galleries.  I use Index to create multi-level galleries (one level deep) to archive older galleries organized by subject matter. The problem I'm having is that the archives are getting extensive on a page where I mostly want more recent galleries. 

I would like to remove them from this page and use a drop down menu to access the archives. 

Is this possible and, if so, where would I start?
