#176 Re: Backlight Support » Going from Test environment to Live environment - a few questions » 2016-06-13 01:51:08

I'd done the Publisher URL Rod - I've just pointed it back to the /test domain to remove an album and that worked as I expected. I'll leave that as it is for the moment. At least I seem to have done things the way you would have for this basic migration. I'll have to wait for Ben to take a look. He has had to wade through the back end on my ISP account before so I'm sure he will have an answer.

TomO

Hi Rod,
I've checked the test directory permissions against the live. They look the same unless my eyes are getting tired.
Question - When one copies down the test site to the local machine in order to FTP it back up to the root does one have to clear out the album sets and album structure in Publisher first as all the database records will be pointing at the test location?
Then one has to re-publish the sets and albums again. That somehow does not feel right as  a fair bit of time is spent in getting the pages to look right with the the right text /content in test.
Regards,
TomO

@Ben, the remote login credentials are still the same

#178 Re: Backlight Support » Going from Test environment to Live environment - a few questions » 2016-06-13 00:41:26

I cannot republish from Lightroom to this new location as I get the same error. How does the database or how do the databases go into read only mode by downloading from the webserver to Mac and uploading back to the root of the domain?

Hi Rod,
My process is the same as you have outlined. I wanted to keep the useful /test domain for further testing etc. When I try and save Company and Site URLs I get this message.

Something went wrong

Update query failed with error: SQLSTATE[HY000]: General error: 8 attempt to write a readonly database sql: 'UPDATE `settings` SET `key`=\'COMPANY_URL\', `value`=\'http://tomowens.openpoint.co.uk\', `modified`=\'2016-06-12 14:00:16\' WHERE `key`=\'COMPANY_URL\'' params: array ( ) in PdoExtended.php on line 552

Good afternoon/evening/morning Chaps,
OK, I made the big decision to migrate my new site to the live environment  having developed it in my test domain (see link at footer)

I erroneously (as I have found out) assumed that if I copied my development files to the root of my domain and then edited the settings in Backlight/Admin that and Publisher (authenticated OK) to point at the parent directory that all would be OK. The answer is No.

I had decided not to migrate CE4 galleries as one of the opportunities of the new site was a housekeeping exercise.

When I try and save the Backlight admin settings, I get a rather obvious (with hindsight) big red SQL error.

I can get the Live site to display OK but if I click a menu item I get taken down a level to my test domain which at the moment is identical to the top level in content.

I have floundered around trying to find out what the path is from development environment to live environment and I am struggling to find what I ought to have done, and what I need to do to rectify the situation, without losing the templates and content.

As always, grateful for any advice. The Live domain is as below but missing the /test/

Going Backlight is a NO_BRAINER. Grasp it and move forward in leaps and bounds.

#183 Backlight Support » Password protected gallery does not permit sharing » 2016-06-11 22:49:03

Hi Chaps,
I have made significant progress in testing of my test site now to the point that I may replace my CE4 site with BL. On testing the use of password protected galleries today, I noticed that the sharing option is not displayed even if using the same base template.
In my test site URL below, there is an Album set called Technical. Within it are two albums, one of which is password protected. Both use the same template. As this is a test site the username is the default guest and the password is drum.
Is the suppression of the sharing feature disabled by design when a password is used on an album? I can see why it might be but I thought I'd ask the question anyway.
I'm keen to get the WP module that is on the bottom of the PRL/backlog so in the meantime I have switched the blog from my  CE4 theme and there are two menu items on the blog to either take you back to the live site or development site. I'm one of those people who like the blog to look like it is part of the site but don't have the time (through other commitments) to work out how to inherit design and style without using the integration tools for numpties like me.
Although I like the cascading/nested menus, I might cap them at top level for galleries as on a mobile the tree view is like a Californian Redwood.
Hats off to the pair of you for making the creation of a basic site simple.

TomO

Many thanks for sorting this out Ben. All looking fine now.

#185 Re: Backlight Support » photoswipe not working_forward/back arrows gone » 2016-06-09 05:56:40

Just tried that Rod. Makes no difference. The Album Sets display OK . It is just the Albums not displaying in Photoswipe mode.
I created a template 102 Album, made no changes other than check that Photoswipe was still the default option for Large Image Presentation. I have republished the Album several times as well as clearing the cache.

#186 Re: Backlight Support » photoswipe not working_forward/back arrows gone » 2016-06-09 05:22:06

I am wondering what else to check. Photoswipe was working OK before the upgrade but not now. Cleared the cache multiple times, have verified that the right Publisher plugin is being accessed.

#187 Re: Backlight Support » photoswipe not working_forward/back arrows gone » 2016-06-09 04:22:02

I have the same problem. All single images now. Got several prompts to update in Admin which I allowed as per readme.txt. Interstly, when Photoswipe is showing in the combo, both Photoswipe and HTML single option areas are on display but if Single image pages is selected only the HTML single image options are available to set parameters against.

Nice link Lofty.
I'll settle for Silktide. It works.

Thanks Matthew,
I put the code in the ttg_footer in my test yesterday. Is it better practice to go in the head? As you say this outfit looks legit and it works OK.

#190 Re: Backlight Support » Cookie Module » 2016-06-03 21:54:46

Hi Matt,
I've tried the Silktide version and the way they present the customisation is not a million miles away from the way you offer customisation of pages and templates etc. It is relatively numpty proof. I don't like making a product look cheap by using something that says supplied free by xxx and BL looks the biz so anything tacked on that looks like a free loader take the polish off IMHO.
If you could offer this option as part of BL so that we could point to our policy page and take on the styling applied to the footer or wherever a user places it that would be great. Quite where this javascript is pulled from is outside of my spectrum of knowledge. Would you have to dump that somewhere where we pulled it for use in our sites?
You may have gathered that this is darkside stuff for me so apologies for that.
I know that a service like this here in Europe just makes it even more attractive to use BL as this issue is a real PITA
Test version visible in Tom's Test site
Getting there - cannot wait for the WP plugin.
This is so much easier to work with. The divorce was a good idea.

#193 Re: Backlight Support » Cookie Module » 2016-06-03 06:04:50

I got this to work OK in CE4 but this is now a basic requirement here in Europe (even if the referendum
goes the wrong way). It seems like a basic option to turn on or off especially as every large web presence has to declare the use of data collection cookies when one uses their sites. Wordpress offer a default plugin for their .wordpress domains now as standard. I have yet to work out what to do with BL in this context.

#194 Re: Backlight Support » Text wrapping in grid » 2016-06-03 00:44:43

Hi Rod,
Changing Max Columns to 2 from 4 sorted it. I need to look at these parameters more and test methodically to see what causes what to happen.

#195 Re: Backlight Support » Text wrapping in grid » 2016-06-03 00:34:27

Thanks Rod,
I'll check that out and the top level where the album sets sit as they all display incorrectly from full screen until I narrow the browser window.

Hi chaps,
I'm seeing something odd when I resize my browser window.
BL_text1.PNG
This does not look right.

A tad narrower is OK

BL_text2.PNG

and in more or less Mobile mode is OK
BL_text3.PNG

Firefox 46.0.1

In CE4 I had a great deal of help from forum members on getting the Cookie compliance aspect of a European site effective. I noted this morning that even on Facebook, they are prompting me as a user that cookies are in use.
Is the inclusion of a cookie use message on the feature list? There must be many TTG users who have to design their site to comply with European law.
I started to try and incorporate what I had in CE4 but I have yet to see if it works properly as it was based on the integrated WP blog with a WP plugin.
Making changes and testing is sooooooo much easier in BACKLIGHT. I just don't like treading where I don't ought to be naturally.

I mentioned this in another email thread with Ben but if I click on the Special Links/List PHP Modules the result returned is my live site and not my development site. Is this correct?

#199 Re: Backlight Support » Menu Woes » 2016-05-23 17:39:36

Hi Lofty,
I had a problem with some funny nested menu issues that required me to delete rows from the database as orphans had been left behind after deleting via Publisher. I've not recreated the problem as I have been busy preparing for an exhibition. Deleting the orphans cleared the menu issue or at least cleared the redundant Galleries choices from the menu-set combo.
Ben advised me what to do with the access to the database.

TomO
