Thanks for the new version of Backlight. I am slowly testing things in the background.

contact success response
How do I style this response so that it fits with my overall style? I cannot find anything in the template to do this.
Thanks

I don't know why I waited so long to do this. http://www.openpoint.co.uk/home/ . OK it still needs work but a morning out from doing work for other people has been the easiest refresh ever and it all looks like it is living together.
Thanks to Matt, Ben Rod and others for all the help along the way.
I might actually get out and make some new work now.

#129 Re: Backlight Support » More than one instance of BL? » 2017-03-06 01:37:30

I'll give it a whirl and see how it goes.

#130 Re: Backlight Support » More than one instance of BL? » 2017-03-06 01:30:26

Thanks Rod,
Basically I am thinking of managing my main site pages using BL - that is not the photography site but is the entity that owns the photography side of the business. One or two of those pages might have an image or two and I can link off to the photography site as I do now. BL is so easy to configure and at least it will give me a more professional look and feel.
So I presume I just do a normal install in the companyname folder on my ISP web server as the photography site sits at  tomowens.companyname level. I just wanted to ask if this was a doable thing without screwing anything up but it sounds OK from what you are saying.
Thanks.

I am really pleased with how BL has come on and my photography site has never looked better. My instance of BL is installed in a sub-domain of my main business domain as Photography absorbs more income than it generates for me but here is the rub, my top level domain looks dire now and needs updating because BL looks so good IMHO.

I suffered a burglary last autumn when my main processing machine was stolen and although I have backup files of my top-level domain and the original software that I could reinstall, I don't want to go back into using the software used for that site as it is not truly responsive. I have two options I am considering at present and they are;

Multisite WordPress - my BL blog is in WordPress  with WP installed in a folder off the sub-domain where BL sits - so top level pages could be developed in WP or,

Install a copy of BL in my top-level domain i.e. the folder level above where the photography site sits and use the page design tools to redevelop those pages

My question is whether BL can be installed twice in the web server i.e. additionally in a folder above one where it is working very well? If this is possible are there any pitfalls? If this sounds crazy then please say so.
It goes without saying that I do not want to rock the boat and destroy all the good work.
Thanks.

#132 Re: Backlight Support » Copyright date » 2017-01-07 20:39:22

The footer will display a copyright statement on each page of your site. You set the starting date and the the text string and each January 1st when you log in to Backlight admin clear the template cache and Backlight will increment the end date to the current year. I set 1968 as my start date. See my site footer.

#133 Re: Backlight Showcase » Backlight site Live » 2016-10-11 15:15:31

Thanks Rod I'll try that out. I had a feeling Custom CSS might be an answer.

#134 Re: Backlight Showcase » Backlight site Live » 2016-10-11 05:28:18

Thanks Matt. I really appreciate the seamless look and feel of having WP pick up the site styling. I'll experiment a bit more. One thing I was wondering about was whether the widgets could have some selective formatting such as making the recent posts appear in a larger font for example.  I realise that the text widget with e Kodak logo needs some work by me for wrapping. Away at present but plenty of time for such thoughts.
Big , big thanks to you and Ben for pulling all this stuff together.

#135 Re: Backlight Showcase » Backlight site Live » 2016-10-08 22:03:04

And now with the WordPress add-on working. Great to have this extra feature.

#137 Re: Backlight Support » Wordpress Add-on font style not pulling through » 2016-10-08 20:47:49

Thanks Matt,
Will give that a go.
Very big thanks from me for you and Ben pulling all this stuff together. I've said it before but BL is so much better for making changes to the website. A huge step forward that lets me make more tweaks than i ever used to in the CEn days

#138 Re: Backlight Support » Wordpress Add-on font style not pulling through » 2016-10-08 20:29:18

Hi Rod,
custom-css is applied across the site but that does not control Raleway font.
I have a Google fonts statement filled in at the top of the typography section of the page template being used for the WP theme and all my other pages for that matter and the Prepend font familyw/ has Raleway populating the combo.
I have cleared template cache etc many times as I usually do when making changes.
It is just the blog not picking up the font style -  the colours and menu  etc OK. You can spot the difference jumping back to any other menu page - look at the W in OWENS.
This is on live as in the link below.

Grim here in Suffolk - just the day to do back end stuff....

Good morning,
I have installed the WP add on thanks and I am assuming it is something I have not checked somewhere but the font style I set for my basic pages - Raleway- is not coming through to the Blog page.
Any advice will be gratefully received as always.

Gradually improving this site. Now have pop-up working. Nice feature Matthew.

#141 Re: Backlight Support » texture issue » 2016-07-24 17:42:55

I bought this book after Rod suggested it to someone else Ken. Now halfway through the 670 odd pages and tutorials and I am slowly learning stuff.
The tutorials (all downloadable) are good and there are finished examples if you mess things up. Very powerful stuff.
I'll practice on my test test site with all sorts of of stuff in the custom.css file to see if anything sank in. I 'm sure it will become second nature soon enough.

I'm lagging way way behind Rod but I have started to study and learn this stuff from starting out on CE2. I realised I could not ignore this stuff anymore. I've got Wordpress under my belt now but CSS is something that will change the label on the tin and it is soooooo much easier to create and modify pages in Backlight.

Alter the order manually in the filmstrip in Lightroom. Works OK for small albums.

Morning chaps,
I was working away last week when the upgrade came out so only just got around to performing the upgrade as per the instructions rolled out with it (as always).

It went seamlessly as expected. A few refreshes on browsers but that is to be expected. I've not added anything new yet but all tickety boo here as we say in the UK.

Many thanks and eagerly awaiting the WP module. BL is SO MUCH easier and quicker to work with than any of the CEn versions previously.

#144 Re: Backlight Support » Page copy for galleries - more a what if that a support question » 2016-06-28 02:12:03

Thanks Rod.
That is about the only way I can edit lengthy content reliably

It is very interesting looking around the different sites developed in BL. I marvel at how quickly I can make changes happen these days instead of the CEn days where I never went near a static page once it was live.
That said, I have the following user scenario;

As a publisher of galleries to my site I like to make use of both album sets and albums templates to give a consistent look and feel to the presentation. So far so good.
At the top and upper levels of my gallery hierarchy I can see the need for copy area in the template but when I want to add some description to accompany the album for example I have to use the Page Content tab in the LR Publisher to add the copy. As you will all know, this is impossibly small and not particularly responsive in terms of size and or editing, be it spelling or re-arrangement of text. I have lost count of the number of PEBKAC issues I have had where by not looking at the screen I have undone everything previously typed in the small box.

As a feature for future iterations of BL would it be possible for the BL engine to have a child record area not unlike say the menu set nested feature where a copy area could have content made/edited/ etc as with the copy area features in the templates and pages? Something such as 'You have assigned xxxx template. Would you like to assign album copy?' High level and a bit wooly but just as a starting point - you may already be on the case.

I understand that we are dependent upon LRs Publisher feature to publish at present but if you are working up options for a full  departure from the Web module in LR, this would be a big enhancement for the way I work. It may be that other users can tell me a much more effective way of writing this copy.

#146 Re: Backlight Support » Error after upgrading lightroom 'Unable to perform action:getSetupForT » 2016-06-26 19:39:06

I got this yesterday.
You need to follow the installation instructions on the blog and you have to use the plugin manager to by pointing LR to where you saved it. It should work then once you have made sure the API key etc is all set up in BL

#147 Re: Backlight Support » Gallery menus and thumbnails going awry » 2016-06-26 05:54:59

Thanks Rod,
This afternoon I have migrated my catalog to LR6 and am in the process of re-building all the galleries. Th rest of the site still works OK. I'll take another look in the morning.
I've re-run the reload fix a few times before moving across to LR6. Thanks for taking a look.

#148 Re: Backlight Support » Gallery menus and thumbnails going awry » 2016-06-25 21:43:15

Hi Rod,
This is the live site as per the link in the sidebar here and I'm just back in and it seems like it is still erratic. The only part of the menu tree that is affected is the galleries.
For example I can slide down the menu and open galleries a number of times then without any indicative number that seems to trigger it, the navigation becomes locked in that it cannot open the level it is supposed to be pointing at. It still works on the iPhone6 at the moment.
I tried re-publishing, checking the templates were still pointed correctly in Publisher etc but little seems to stop the problem re-occurring
I'll change my signature to the live site in the meantime to avoid confusion.
Still puzzled.

#149 Re: Backlight Support » Gallery menus and thumbnails going awry » 2016-06-25 18:22:53

Thanks Matt,
I have to go and see some student work now so I'll see if this has shaken itself out by the time I get back. Nonsense is a good descriptor for Brexit.

Everything yesterday was working OK, despite the banal decision by a fraction over 50% of the UK to vote out of the EU. I don't think this issue is affected by that but there must be some other issue going on
Yes, I have tried appending this to the the URL many time this morning but to no avail.

?reloadModel&skipCache

I still get Screen%20Shot%202016-06-25%20at%2009.34.23.png
in both Firefox and Safari

I have also logged in to flush the cache several times but to no avail.

Any ideas?
