My website is now back to where it was under CE4, except for the textured background which I am putting aside for now because I suspect it can be somewhat difficult and time consuming. I must say that Backlight has made my redevelopment so much easier than it was under CE4. I didn't even bother migrating my galleries; it was so easy to republish them once the Backlight framework was in place. And making small changes under Backlight was very,very easy. A global colour setting would be nice though.
I managed to get my opening slide show going with the following code as the main window copy:
<center>
<video id="videoplayer" width="75%" height="75%" autoplay loop>
<source src="videos/Opening_Slide_Show.mp4">
</video>
</center>
This works in the Windows browsers; but when I check my cell phone (Android), the slide show first appeared as a black rectangle and now doesn't appear at all. When it did appear there was no way to start the slide show as had been enabled under CE4. I have suppressed the controls for the video so that it doesn't mess up the browser screen in Windows; this appears to affect the Android presentation.
Any suggested solutions? Will Stages, yet to be released for Backlight, help me fix this issue?
Another, much less important issue, is that if you enlarge the browser window far enough, a grey bar appears on the left-hand side. How do I get rid of it?
Actually I don't want anything to appear. I just tested with entering several blanks in each field and that appears to work.
In version 1.0.2, empty captions fall back to the image title; empty titles fall back to the image file name.
Thanks, Matthew, for your response. I missed it while I was preparing my response to Rod. What should I put in these titles to suppress the file name?
in your album set, look under Image Settings > Image metadata.
After you make the necessary change, republish the images. In Publisher settings, check the "push metadata without updating existing photos" checkbox to make this go faster.
The four fields in Image Metadata have been blank for several hours now while I test. There have been several republishings, but I just did another one with no change. The file name is still appearing. I tried to use the Publisher function to rename the files to a sequencing "1 of etc." but to no avail because of a Publisher issue. I also could not find the "push metadata without updating existing photos" checkbox, but that could be because I am getting tired.
How can I suppress the file names appearing when a gallery is displayed? I'm quite happy with the 1/24 or whatever appearing in the upper-left-hand corner.

The difference between with and without www. is definitely a browser problem. It happens only in Opera which I use most of the time.
They both look the same to me in Opera as well.
That's interesting. It's the initial appearance of the home page which differs when I enter the web site in Opera. After that they appear exactly the same, even when I return to the home page. Could be my implementation of the software. I don't intend to lose any sleep over it. ![]()
Thanks for your further suggestion on finding the right css selector. I'll follow through on that. I'm finding that Backlight is making some things very much easier and a few things a bit harder. ![]()
Hi, Rod. You keep beating me when I add additional comments.
The difference between with and without www. is definitely a browser problem. It happens only in Opera which I use most of the time.
Also, if I type in www.charking.com, the masthead and menu items are off-centre; whereas if I type in charking.com, I get them centered the way I want them.
This may be a browser problem. It happens to me in Opera but not Chrome or IE.
I can't see it at all. The look that I am after is what I had under CE4. An example can be seen in my original opening screen at www.charking.com/opening. The texture is showing only in the slideshow and not in the overall background because the other CE4 modules are not available. Under Backlight my masthead and menu links have a black background and I don't see the texture at all, possibly because it is too light.
Hi, Rod.
I've followed through on your suggestion, but it still doesn't want to work. Would you please take another look.
The image is now at http://www.charking.com/phplugins/images/background.jpg and is accessible and the custom.css file reads
html, body, main {
background-attachment: scroll;
background-image: url(/phplugins/images/background.jpg);
background-position: center top;
background-repeat: repeat;
}
The permission code on all folders down to the background image is 755. I can't see any problem here.
Added after further testing:
I can call up the custom.css code in a browser with http://charking.com/backlight/custom/css/custom.css, but it fails with the phplugins folder.
I'm not sure what you mean by "the selector". And the link is www.charking.com.
I just started working on this yesterday evening and it is still very much a work in progress. No galleries as yet. I'm trying to set up the site's "shell" before adding galleries.
I have followed the advice in the topic http://community.theturninggate.net/vie … hp?id=6622 successfully so I know that my custon.css setup is working. What I had under CE4 and want in Backlight is the ability to add a texture to all of my web pages. This is the custom.css code I was uisng in CE4 and copied over to Backlight with a path modification which I hope is correct:
/* If your page background-color is red after enabling the PHPlugins function, then you know it's working.
* Delete this after confirmation, because it's hideous :
*/
body {
background-attachment: scroll;
background-image: url(/backlight/custom/phplugins/images/background.jpg);
background-position: center top;
background-repeat: repeat;
/* background-color: #f00 !important; */
}
Is this code correct and should it not override any colour setup in the Backlight template definition?
Thanks, Rod. I played a lot with video dimensions. The Photodex ProShow Producer technical support suggested a similar approach. Nothing worked with Proshow Producer which was my preferred slide show program (many, many transitions and other features). The line did disappear if I used a background of a solid colour, so it had something to do with my textured background image. I solved the problem by putting a black border around the video area.
The video starts automatically in Windows on a PC; but on both an iPhone and an Android phone, the white arrowhead on a black background appears and the user has to start the show himself. Is there any way to autostart on a cell phone?
Thanks, Rod. All is fixed now. Not having used Publisher before, I had ignored that section of the template; so it defaulted to the first album name and description, not what I wanted.
I have also reordered my galleries.
Publisher does make life easier.
I have completed my web site redesign and have implemented it using Publisher. this is my first time using Publisher, and I am very impressed by it. I should have started using it years ago. However (there's always a "however" on sites like this), the album description for the first gallery I published is now showing up as the information (circle i) in the Galleria slide show for each gallery. My design, using this first gallery as the test bed, called for the sequence number to be displayed as the information. Publisher was not implemented until after I had finalized my design; testing was done using ftp to upload the code and the first gallery was deleted off the web site and then published.
the web site is www.charking.com.
Another unrelated question (and not as important): how can I control the sequence of the galleries appearing on the Galleries page?
I'm close to getting the results I want in the Stage Galleria slide show and a video presentation of the same slide show. Ultimately I will use only one of these on my web site, probably Galleria, but I'd like to solve the video issue as well.
Galleria: two sequence numbers are appearing in the info panel,left and right. H ow do I get rid of the right hand one?
http://www.charking.com/galleries/Amor_de_Dios_Stage/
Video: two thin black lines are appearing at the left and right hand sides of the video. This is a Lightroom video, but I am having a similar result, right side only, with a ProShow Producer video. Any ideas as to what could be causing these lines?
Thanks, Rod. I am using Pages. I'll have a look at that option.
Thanks, Rod, for the suggestion. It is an interesting one but probably one I can't use. I an currently reworking my web site using the CE4 modules Gallery and Stage. You may recall my wanting to use the same textured background in all my screens. The slide show option in CE4 Gallery doesn't support that, but Galleria in Stage does. So does the video option in Stages. I am coming down to deciding which of the three, Gallery, Stage Galleria, or Stage Video is the one I want to use for all my galleries, present and future. Right now I am leaning towards Galleria.
How would I open my web site with a slide show? Is there something in the documentation to which you can point me? This is something which occurred to me only this afternoon.
Thanks, both of you. A "nice to have". but I can do without.
Is it possible to put a black border around the individual photographs as they appear in a Galleria slide show?
Thanks, Matthew. I'm glad I learned that now. I'm going to add Stage to my toolkit and start using Publisher right away.
You're too fast for me, Rod. I came back to add another question and you had already responded. My additional question: are nested galleries possible as they are in CE4 Galleries? I've used that feature in the past and will again as I add more galleries to my web site.
And still another question. What about Publisher? Will it work with Galleria? I have Publisher but haven't implemented it yet.
Thanks again, Rod. Some more questions. I am currently redoing my website in CE4 (it was in CE3 previously) with a light textured background, using the custom css code. The Amor de Dios gallery is my testing ground; once it is fixed my other current galleries and future ones will be done the same way. From what you are saying above, the entry point to the gallery in Galleria would be the slide show, not the grid as it is in CE4 Galleries? Would the textured background I am now using still be possible?
