1. I notice that I can add an item to the cart and then the View Cart icon appears in the upper right corner of my screen. If I then close my browser, reopen my website. The View Cart icon is gone, which means I can not go back and edit my cart. Most shopping sites remember your cart contents. This way you can come back at a later time, add additional items or modify the cart contents. I think this offers a great advantage to customers. In the Backlight Cart, all content is lost when the browser window is closed. Is there a setting that allows the Backlight Cart to remember its content even after closing and reopening the web browser?
If not, I think there should be an update to cart to give it this feature. I can easily imagine customer selecting a print, adding it to the cart, but still not having made up their mind about the exact size or whether they want a cotton print or a gallery wrap. When they come back the next day and reopen their web browser and go to my website, the cart contents should still be there.
2. Cart-401 was just released. The sub-folder, module-cart, contains:
folders: admin, application, config, lib
files: .htaccess_disabled, index.php, module.xml
I want to make sure I am doing the upgrade correctly and that there is no danger of loosing all of my cart settings. If I understand the readme file correctly, all I have to do is copy the above files and folders into the module-cart folder on my host server. Is this correct?
Thanks, Matt
Now I plan on cloning the pages and trying out different page layouts. When I come up with a different look that I like, I will adjust the menu sets so they point to the revised pages. The ease in which Backlight allows this type of development gives me the freedom to explore new possibilities.
I really appreciate the work you and Ben put into developing Backlight. The speed with which I can create and modify a page in Backlight is multiple times faster than working in CE4.
Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you, Matthew and Ben. Backlight is huge advance from CE4. My Backlight + Pages + Cart is up and running. I have removed from my hosting server all the files/folders that my old CE4-Pages-Gallery-Cart site used. An additional thank-you to Ben and Daniel, for patiently answering all of my questions with helpful guidance and inspiration.
My site uses:
-The Responsive Grid Layout (thanks Rod) on all pages using two columns
-Home page slide show using html(thanks Daniel)
-Background texture using CSS
-Media page including two embedded youtube videos that scale properly in small mobile device windows using html (thanks Daniel)
There were a few glitches and hiccups involved in creating my site and switching from CE4 to Backlight, but everything seems to be working.
One of the things I look forward to is the ability to experiment and test out layout changes on cloned pages, hidden from view to website visitors, until they are ready to be added to my site with a few mouse clicks.
Fixed the problem. The Cart Settings, Cart Template was referencing the incorrect template.
Thanks for the suggestions. I tried both and neither worked. I left one of them in custom7.css, which is the css file that my website references.
p.discount-p {
display:none;
}
Do I have to enable css anywhere else other than default page template under the Advanced Customization setting? Do I have to enable php?
I just edited my post, it is showing up after re-saving pages, but seems a little inconsistent. I will keep testing this. Now it seems to be working.
Still would like to get rid of the discount box.
I added to the css file
.discount-entry {
display:none;
}
No change, discount entry is still visible.
Another big problem is that the View Cart icon in the upper right hand corner is only visible on certain pages. I have gone back and opened each page in Backlight and resaved it, this seems to have prompted the View Cart icon to appear in the upper right corner. It still is a little inconsistent, sometimes it does not appear.
Assuming I have added an item to the cart, I see the View Cart icon when I am on a gallery page plus for some reason on my Purchase page, but non of the other pages. Strange.
Any ideas what is going on?
In the mean time I have added a cart menu selection so that a customer can check their cart content no matter what page they are on.
I had actually added delivery method in my CE4 cart to disguise the discount field. Then I learned to use custom css to hide the field:
.discount-entry {
display: none;
}
However neither this or your suggested code works to hide the discount field in Backlight Cart. Any other suggestions?
One thing I notice is that the cart icon only appears when I am in one of the gallery pages, but not in any of the other pages. Why is that?
Thanks so much, that was it. The cart seems to work, with all of my print types and sizes and proportions. I am happy there is no discount field.
I am trying to figure out what the delivery information field is?
I installed Backlight Cart and migrated the settings everything in the Backlight dashboard worked properly and it appears that all of the CE4 Cart info was migrated over to Backlight Cart. However in Lightroom when I open the Album(s) to edit them, under the Integration tab the Cart area is grayed out, so I can not check the box "Enable Cart".
I tried publishing from one of the Albums, which worked fine, but this did not help with the cart integration problem.
Any suggestions?
I moved my entire Backlight test site to the root directory so it is no longer a test.
Everything seems to be working. In the process of doing this I replaced the CE4 index.php file with the Backlight index.php file plus I renamed the following folders by appending their name -ce4: galleries-ce4, media-ce4, photos-ce4.
there were a few hiccups during the migration. Without going into the details of how it happened, at one point I deleted one of the galleries album "Winter" subfolder using my file manager. I realize this is a no no, but I had thought I had already removed it in LR, now not sure. I ended up recreating the same Winter album in LR Publisher. Then Backlight thought there were two of these galleries, one populated with folders and the other empty. I used the Top-level Galleries>Galleries>Albums settings in Backlight to delete the album (it was no longer in a LR album). I tested all the galleries out, including publishing to them from LR and everything seems to work.
Is there any other way of testing the integrity of Backlight published galleries before I move on to my next step?
My next step is to install cart and migrate the settings from CE4 cart.
I found the options for reordering under Publisher. Will play around with these.
I did something similar to what you suggested. The one tif file I could not publish had an xmp sidecar file. Non of the other files had xmp sidecar files. I deleted the xmp side car file. Still could not publish it. I opened it in Photoshop, added a curve layer, saved, and was able to successfully publish it.
I hope the xmp sidecar file was the issue and nothing else.
How can I order the thumbnail galleries on my main gallery page? I want the seasonal galleries to be in the correct order.
Thanks for your help.
GoDaddy
Linux Hosting with cPanel
A couple of years ago, I had similar issues, but was not using cPanel. This forum recommended switching over to cPanel, which I did and have not had any problems since that time. It is strange that the problem is only occurring with one album.
I created six different Backlight Publisher Albums in Lightroom. Each Album setup is identical. Each album has between 19 and 33 pictures. All of the Albums published successfully to my test Backlight website, except for one album, titled "3-fall". When I ask Lightroom to publish this gallery, it will publish 7 to 9 images and then stop, returning this error message.
When I attempt to publish the remaining files, no files are published and I get the same message. I have exited Lightroom, optimizing the LR database and tried to republish, with the same result. I have deleted the "3-fall" album from Lightroom TTG Publisher and from my test website, then recreated the album, making sure the settings were identical to the other five albums, and added the files to the album. The same experience occurs.
While doing this, I successfully published additional albums, including after receiving the message error message.
Any ideas what might be going on and how to correct.
I figured it out (forgot to use </a>), now only the hyperlink itself is blue, the rest of the page text is black. Is there a setting in Backlight that specifies the hyperlink color?
I inserted a hyperlink on my two video pages (accessed only through the Media page). Clicking on this link returns the viewer to the Media page. The hyperlink text is blue and all of the other text on the video pages is now blue. Without the hyperlink the text on the video pages are black. Here is the html tag:
<a href="http://sweetlightgallery.com/test/media/">Return to Media Page
I am thinking there must be a Backlight setting that controls hyperlink text color, which will allow me to specify black text. But I can not locate such a control.
Any thoughts on how to make my text black?
Thanks for your help and appreciation.
I restructured the media section of my website so that the two videos are on their own hidden pages (not visible in the menu) and are accessed by clicking on thumbnail images in the Media page. It still needs a little more refinement, but it is getting closer.
Daniel, thanks for spotting these. I left the resize code the same, but changed the other two items you pointed out. Now it works and resizes to fit iPhones.
The resize code was used for the background texture, so it would change to flat colors at a smaller browser window. Matt in another post said that Backlight did not work well with texture on small displays.
I don't have that little box, it might be one of the Chrome developer extensions. The "inspect" option works. So I can view at iPad size plus several iPhones.
I have added two videos to my media page, they both resize to a smaller size they will work in an iPad size display, which is good. However, when I view at various smartphone sizes, the media players are too large, they extend beyond the phones window.
Thanks for the code. This works to resize one size smaller (not counting full screen). The youtube window resizes to a single smaller size when I reduce the browser size window. It will not go any smaller.
Do you know of a reliable Chrome or Firefox extensions that will let me set my browser window to standard pixel dimensions. I want to be able to check and see how my website including the media area will look on tablets/mobile devices.
I want to embed youtube videos on a Backlight page. This is easy to do, but the problem I run into is that the youtube player does not scale to a smaller size on small screens that are found on tablets/mobile devices. I did a google search and found two suggestions. Both involved using specific page html with a corresponding CSS script. I tried both approaches and none of them worked. The embedded youtube video plays, but does not scale to a smaller size when when viewed in a small browser window.
I assume the solution will be Backlight Theater (I thought I read somewhere that this is what Backlight stage will be called?), but until then I am looking for a temporary method. Any one found page html and a CSS script that will scale the youtube player?
"You'll also need to delete any other pages you created with Pages, like contact.php, about.php, etc."
Can I delete these files along with all CE4 folders/files after making sure Backlight and cart are working after the move?
"In my test site, I migrated the Cart settings over without migrating any CE4 albums/ cart enabled pages first. I then was able to just create albums or pages that could use my CE4 pricing profiles."
I want to migrate the Cart settings over without migrating any CE4 albums, then in Lightroom I will enable the Backlight album cart function. I think I am just stating what you are saying, is that correct?
I have a fully functioning CE4 website including cart. I created folder called "test" and installed Backlight and Pages into this subfolder. I also purchased Backlight cart, but have not installed it yet. I want to replace my CE4 website with my Backlight website and migrate all CE4 cart settings to Backlight cart. Here are my first two questions:
STEP 1. Moving the Backlight website from the "test" folder to the root directory. My test Backlight website has 3 folders; backlight, galleries, photos (contains misc photos used on different Backlight pages), plus two files; .htaccess and index.php. I notice that my root directory already includes a index.php file.
QUESTION 1: When I move the entire content of the "test" folder to the root directory, the CE4 index.php file will be replaced by the Backlight index.php file. Will this cause any problems?
STEP 2. Installing Backlight cart and migrating all CE4 cart settings to the Backlight cart. I notice that the Backlight cart migration instructions state "It is also recommended to migrate albums from CE4 to Backlight before migrating CE4 CRG to Backlight." QUESTION 2: In order to successfully migrate all CE4 cart settings to Backlight cart, is it a requirement to migrate albums from CE4 to Backlight?
