Hi Backlight team, I have a simple question: With Stage I have been using the "Compare: TwentyTwenty" option for a special case: Comparing photos of birds difficult to seperate in the wild.
I had hold off to switch from Ce4 to Backlight because of this feature. Have made the switch in the meantime, because of all the other advantages Backlight has to offer. I have still been hoping for Theatre to bring this option back. What I have seen so far, it is not there yet.
Now my question: Will it come back? If so, I would wait to convert those galleries and keep waiting, if not I would think of different ways to get these comparison galleries back. It’ll be less elegant with what I had in the past with CE4, but so be it. Life should not be too much about waiting, but I would hate to invest the work only to find in not too distant future that waiting would have been the better option.
I hope I could get across what I am asking: Is the "Compare: TwentyTwenty" coming back or not? Does not have any impact on me thinking that Backlight is a great product, which I am using now, but I just would like to know helping me to decide what to do. Honest answer much appreciated! Keep up the good work.
Cheers Alfred
Hi Patrick, works for me under the same iOS (9.3.2) with Safari.
Alfred
This works great for me as well.
Thanks Daniel.
Alfred
Thanks Ben (as well as Matt and Rod) for all the long days you chip in to support us here!
Hi Ben, I have sent you an email with login credentials in case you want to have a look.
Yes, if this means copying the directory "\backlight\modules\module-client-response\" from the unzipped 7.0.1 download into the corresponding "modules" directory of Backlight on the server.
Hi there, I have finally managed to install Backlight 1.0.3 (this was from 1.0.1) with no obvious problems. This meansI have skipped the update to 1.0.2.
I have now also installed "client-response" for the first time (=> means I have have skipped the first version 7.0.0) and have the problem reported in this thread: Client Response is not showing up at all in Backlight Admin. Any advice?
I should mention that I have logged-in and out a couple of times, cleared the Browser Cache as well as the Template Cache. The permission are set to 755.
Cheers Alfred
Matt, you're talking about the Tyler Durden, who said:
Tomorrow will be the most beautiful day of Rod Barbee's life. His breakfast will taste better than any meal you and I have ever tasted?
I am glad Ben has not lost his humor with all the lack of sleep he must have suffered from in the last couple of days - I'm sure we will need him in good shape the next weeks
Just recognised that Rod's number of posts have past 10.000 by now - great support and thanks for that!
Have cleared my Browser Cache and downloaded and installed the latest Backlight 1.0.1 fix - and things are all fine now! Thanks for the great support. Alfred
Ben, have just sent another email with the login credentials. The PWs have been changed, you can't use those from last night anymore. Alfred
Hi Ben, I thought I have sent you and email containing both last night? If that has not come through, I need to wait till tonight, because I don't have access to the info right now. Could you check please? Alfred
I am sure I have followed the readme instructions - had the file open and looked at it when doing the update. If I would have overwritten everything, I should not have got the update messages that I got followed by a message that the update was successful, I reckon. It is interesting as well to see that my changes to the menu set are still there, the uploaded masthead is being used, but no uploaded images are shown and I can't see any templates, not even the Default ones.
Have sent my credentials to Ben, let's wait if he can see anything. If that does not work, I'll repeat the update process.
Yes, I did.
Get the same error message when trying to access the "About" page after the update.
I have just updated to 1.0.1 and when logging in to Backlite I got the update messages (successful) and my test-site looks as before, but when I go to Designer I can't find my templates anymore, they are all gone. Same for Pages and Menu-sets. The uploaded images are also not shown anymore, although the site itself still uses them.
I am pretty sure I have followed the update process as described in the readme. I am not too fuzzed about it, because that's what a test-site is for, but need to understand where I have possibly gone off the rails.
Any suggestions?
Hi Matthew, I am using the Compare TwentyTwenty function, it is just so helpful for the stuff I am doing (bird photography and specifically comparing difficult to seperate birds) - I am a bit afraid I am the only one of the whole CE4 fraternity using it ... ah and I have used Stage for the Vimeo videos, but have not really checked yet if I couldn't do this with Backlight as is.
After spending a rather relaxed few hours for setting up a Backlight test site in a sub-domain, I have to say: I am impressed!
This is by far less stressful than the experience I went through when upgrading from CE3 to CE4 (which was to be honest to a certain degree a self-made problem). Additionally I have learned a bit while using CE4, but most of my worries have evaporated over the weekend. If I wouldn't have done some special things with Stage I would feel ready to switch, but will probably continue playing a bit with the design before I go ahead.
The small isue I have detected is the following: When creating an Album Set within Galleries via Lightroom and leave the selection of the thumbnail set to "Random" I get nothing. I have to deliberately select an image otherwise no thumbnail is shown. I am pretty sure, CE4 pulled a thumbnail up from one of the contained albums, no?
But all in all, a very easy transition, cool stuff! Give me the Stage functionality and I can go back shooting (apologies for putting up such a request, but it's all your fault, it went really too smooth ;-) !
Hi Ben, thanks for the feedback.
I have completely deleted everything and uploaded again. I have made sure that I have not only made the /data directory writeable, but also the things in the directories below. That seems to have fixed the issue. What a great idea it is to start playing with a test set-up in a sub-domain! Cheers Alfred
I have installed Backlight in a subdomain - no problems at all and this was all really fast and easy. That was a good start!
I am now exploring the product and have run into the following problem:
In: Backlight->Designer->Menu Sets I have cloned the Default set. Worked. I can now open the cloned set but when I then try to save it, I get the following error message:
Something went wrong
Update query failed with error: SQLSTATE[HY000]: General error: 14 unable to open database file sql: 'UPDATE `menu_item` SET `url`=\'about/\', `page_id`=\'\', `album_id`=\'\', `album_index_typeid`=\'\', `sort_order`=\'2\', `title`=\'About\', `id`=\'16\', `external`=\'no\', `menu_set_id`=\'4\', `parent_id`=\'0\', `modified`=\'2016-05-07 04:54:35\' WHERE `id`=\'16\'' params: array ( ) in PdoExtended.php on line 552
This happens, even if I do not change anything, just trying to save the opened clone. I have made the /backlight/data directory writable (at least I think this is the case) -> it is at 770.
Any idea where my fault is? Don't get it.
Thanks Alfred
PS:
When trying to activate Custom CSS, I get this (similiar error message):
Unable to save settings: Update query failed with error: SQLSTATE[HY000]: General error: 14 unable to open database file
sql:
'UPDATE `template_setting` SET
`template_id`=\'9\',
`modified`=\'2016-05-07 06:44:15\',
`value`=\'on\'
WHERE `template_id`=\'9\' AND `setting_id`=\'custom_stylesheet.enabled\''
params:

) in PdoExtended.php on line 552
Is this possibly related? Other save operations like activating a masthead work.
Rod, the CE4 Stage pages under Publisher control is what worries me - how do you intend to proceed with that? Wait until the Stage functionality becomes eventually available?
Hi there, I have the following question in regard of migrating albums from CE4 to Backlight:
Some of my albums are based on Stage templates, making use of the 20/20 capability (comparing images by the use of a slider). I understand that this functionality is not available from Backlight yet (hope it will come in not too long time ? .... )
Now, what would be the right thing to do when migrating? Do I need to remove all those albums from Publisher first, before migrating or do I just migrate everything as is? What to expect in the latter case?
Thanks Alfred
The only thing that makes think of something systematic is that I have the same propblem with all templates produced with Autoindex 7.0.7. But nevermind, I have solved my problem.
Got my albums back!
Tried update to BE205 (from 204) first, but no change. Then installed Autoindex 7.0.8 (was 7.0.7) and have re-created and uploaded the Autoindex file (no further changes made) and there they were. All back.
Matt, that's the "Hide from Autoindex" setting in "Features" right?
That was my first thought, but that box is unchecked. I have actually checked it, republished, unchchecked and published again - no change. The weird thing is that this has worked for a long time.
My next attempt will be to install the very latest updates and recreate the used Autoindex template.
