#26 Re: Backlight Support » Pangolin Masonry Thumbnail Grid » 2017-07-03 00:23:49

OK, so I'll re-upload the gallery. Maybe that would solve my other problem with size of thumbnails in album sets?

I'm not understanding the new algorithm implemented in Pangolin for determining size of thumbnails in an album. I was previously able to implement large thumbnails, but in Pangolin, specifying a different thumbnail width and length seems to have no impact. Basically, I can't seem to control the size of the thumbnails and the result is not very appealing.

Here is a sample masonry album in Pangolin: http://www.mabtesting.dreamhosters.com/ … and/maine/
Here is the same album in Okapi: http://www.michaelblanchette.com/galler … and/maine/

How can I achieve a similar effect in Pangolin? None of the album settings seem to influence the outcome.

Using version 1.2 with Pangolin album set templates, I find that the rendered thumbnails created using the Iconic style to be of poor quality, appearing fuzzy compared to the actual images. This seems to be the case even when the default settings for Iconic are used. I cleared the template cache without effect. Note that I'm only seeing this behavior on album SET templates but not on album templates.

This is how it appears on one of my Pangolin test album sets: http://www.mabtesting.dreamhosters.com/ … w-england/
This is how the same page looks under Okapi: http://www.michaelblanchette.com/galleries/new-england/

There's a significant different in the shaprness of thumbnails between the two album sets.

Thanks, Matt. I think I'm all set with the new Okapi modules.

With the latest upgrade, all contact forms now include a required Address field in addition to Name and Email fields. This must be a bug since Address is clearly not appropriate in all cases. I see no way to turn off this required field. Am I missing something?

#31 Re: Backlight Support » Help on Restoring Page » 2017-02-14 07:43:57

I'm all set here. I ended up creating another hosted site using the backup copy and restored the content of the deleted page from there. All better now.

#32 Re: Backlight Support » Help on Restoring Page » 2017-02-14 04:05:12

Thanks, Rob. Those are good ideas. I'll wait for Ben's reply before undertaking but those are good fallbacks.

I just made a huge mistake and deleted one of my pages accidentally. I have a 2-day old backup of the whole site and am wondering if there's an easy way to recover a single page or template from a mirror backup of the site.

I'm going "live" with a new site this week to promote my (co-hosted) photography workshops. You can see it here: http://www.bestofneworkshops.com. The site uses Backlight+Pages, Cart, and Theater. All the slideshows are done with Theater, which works great. I also rely on custom HTML and CSS for refinements.

In addition, I've just finished upgrading my main website to use Theater on the Home page. You can see it here: http://www.michaelblanchette.com. I feel that Theater makes a very nice addition to the Turning Gate templates.

#35 Re: Backlight Support » Weird Masthead Behavior » 2017-01-31 22:14:12

Thanks, Ben! I have no problem changing a file until the permanent fix arrives. That's a relief.

#36 Re: Backlight Support » Weird Masthead Behavior » 2017-01-31 10:42:29

OK, I just emailed Ben with login details.

#37 Re: Backlight Support » Weird Masthead Behavior » 2017-01-31 09:12:23

OK, I went back in to one of the pages, made a trivial change (and undid it immediately), saved the page, cleared the cache, and the problem is back. Take a look at the FAQ page now: http://www.bestofneworkshops.com/faq/.

When I inspect the code, I can see that it's looking to find the masthead file in faq/backlight/designer/... instead of the usual backlight/designer/... which works fine for all other pages. It added the page name ("faq") to the front of the URL for some reason.

Any ideas? I will leave it broken for now in case somebody on the support team wants to have a look.

#38 Re: Backlight Support » Weird Masthead Behavior » 2017-01-31 04:02:54

Rod, this is a different domain (http://www.bestofneworkshops.com) exclusvely for New England workshops involving NE photographers. It seems to happen most often on the submenus under Information. If somebody wants to debug this from my site at some point, I'm sure I can easily reproduce it although the current iteration does not display the problem (I made it go away by tweaking). This is a brand new site built from scratch in Backlight, so there was nothing moved in this case.

Oh, and here's another strange aspect of this problem. Sometimes, the problem does not surface as long as I'm logged into Backlight. But as soon as I logout, the problem pops up on the generated site. On the surface, it seems like it has to do with the manner in which the resource link is constructed.

I'm working on another domain for photo workshops and have been running into a strange corner-case scenario involving the masthead. I'm using a graphical identity plate uploaded using Templates=>Upload Image. It generally works as expected, but on occasion (always after applying a change to a template or page), the masthead fails to display on certain pages.

I traced the code to try to figure out what was going on, and what I found is that Backlight attempts to retrieve the identity plate from the wrong folder every time it fails. Whereas, it normally fetches the identity place from /backlight/designer/... when it's working right, it appears to be attempting to fetch the resource from /backlight/[page]/designer/.... every time it fails. So it adds the page name in the link when it shouldn't.

The annoying part is that the behavior is not consistent, and when it happens, I have to make minor tweaks to something just to force a change, and again Clean Template Cache and empty the brower cache before retrying. Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't. I have found no workaround other than re-applying ficticious tweaks to force a rebuild of a page and keep retrying until it takes.

Has anybody else had this problem?

I've been using the new Theater add-on and love it!But one option that seems to do nothing is the "Location" option in the Album Settings. I've tried using "Below the Page Copy" and it never seems to take. The page copy always remains above the album.

#42 Re: Backlight Support » Children Menus in Backlight 110 » 2016-11-11 10:09:14

Thanks for the quick turnaround, Ben. That fixes my menu problem.

#43 Re: Backlight Support » Children Menus in Backlight 110 » 2016-11-11 00:21:54

The symptom seems to be that the last of the album sets is always omitted, whereas the others appear as expected.

There seems to be a bug in the latest Backlight 110. Children menus are not all displayed. I have "Descend up to 2 levels" set for Galleries, and only the first album set shows the children menus. The other does not. If you look at my website (www.michaelblanchette.com), you'll see that the Europe album set appropriately shows the two-level menu. However, album set New England does not show the submenus eventhough it contains 6 albums.

After installing 110, I cleared the cache as suggested, and reset all the prerequiste modules. This looks like a new bug to me.

Wow, it took me little time to incorporate the new Backlight Wordpress module into my website. My site is now live with the module, which means I no longer have any CE4 components in production. This is a fantastic improvement -- so easy to implement. Thank you to the development team!

For the time being, I'd be happy with support for a sidebar in the default theme.

#47 Re: Backlight Support » Need HELP: error on top-level gallery index » 2016-09-25 01:51:29

OK, after much playing around, I found that the ID in gallery.xml in /galleries had recently changed from ID 1 to ID 2, causing the problem. Weird, but I simply reset the id in gallery.xml to 1 like it was on my test site and now it works fine. Not sure what caused the change but it seems fixed now.

I don't know what I did but my top-level gallery index no longer displays and gives the following error:

Something went wrong
The template could not be found for id in GalleryDelegate.php on line 284

All the albums are intact but the gallery index no longer works. I tried clearing cache, resetting the publisher settings, and forcing re-uploads of albums to recreate the index and nothing seems to work. I even re-installed Backlight 104.

You can see the behavior on my site here: www.michaelblanchette.com

My Backlight website has now gone live. It includes both a shopping cart and my blog. ! I decided to not wait for the Backlight Blog module and use the CE4 Blog plug-in instead. The look-and-feel is very close with minor differences. The migration from test site to production site took mere minutes. This will be so much easier to maintain!

The production site is here: http://www.michaelblanchette.com
