#26 Backlight 2 Support » API url in site updated from CE4 » 2019-04-29 22:16:49

Rod, I have followed the instructions in your blog

I've deleted all the files and directories apart from galleries and ttg-be and uploaded all the folders from the test site as instructed, I can log into backlight and changed the site directory settings

All good until this point

In Lightroom, go to the Publisher instance that controls your existing albums and update the API URL to the new Backlight location (yoursite.com/backlight/publisher). If you set the API key for your development site the same as your original site, then you’re all set. If not, make sure the API keys in Backlight and Lightroom match.

Is that URL correct or should it be, in my case peterblandford.com/backlight/data/publisher

Either way I seem to be struggling to get the authentication to match, weirdly clicking "check authentication" on LR doesn't do anything

Any suggestions?

as to the gaps, that can be a function of aspect ratio combined with image ratio and size. Some images (the tall ones) extend down nearly to the thumbnails so there's really no gap at the bottom.

The top gap can, I believe, be affected by the Controls (Inside or Outside) setting.

sorted - thanks

Are you using the "Expanded" option in the Galleria album template? If so, that will hide all copy.

If you are using Expanded, change that to "Inline" and save the template. You may need to clear template cache before seeing changes take effect. (link to clear template cache can be found on the main Backlight dashboard under Special Links

Thanks - that's sorted

Hi guys, I have bought and installed backlight 2 and I am following Rod's very helpful guide to convert a CE4 gallery to backlight

the new temporary site is here and the old one is here

I have a couple of questions

1. The main copy in the home page does not appear on the site, I have some text in the main copy in the page setting and nothing appears on the site

2. I have some unwanted gaps above and below the gallery that forces a smaller slideshow, I can't find how to get rid of them, can you help?

Sorry, tried searching, I found the download page for sample templates but can't find what you do with them when you have downloaded them?

#32 Re: Backlight 2 Support » Backlight 2 from CE4 » 2019-04-16 23:46:00

Got it, thanks Rod, assume the rest is still valid?

#33 Re: Backlight 2 Support » Backlight 2 from CE4 » 2019-04-16 23:40:48

Thanks Rod, I'm just following your very useful blog, I've got to this bit

In Lightroom, install the version of Publisher that came with your Backlight download. It will take over for the CE4 version. Nothing will change as far as your CE4 site is concerned. You’ll still be able to publish as normal. TTG CE4 Publisher will be inactivated, replace by TTG Publisher.

TTG Publisher didn't come with my download?

Hi guys,

I finally bought backlight 2 and have been working out how best to upgrade from CE4.

I currently use CE4 for www.peterblandford.com and use publisher regularly to update the galleries

I also use the CE4 WP theme on www.begurvillas.com

Firstly the photography site peterblandford.com

Ideally I would like to install a second version of the site and when working change my host to point to the new site. I have followed Matthew's youtube installation and installed BL2 to new.peterblandford.com, I see that I could upgrade my CE4 galleries using the migration tool in publisher. As I am trying to do it parallel to the old site I do not have the galleries there.

1. Is there a way to create a copy of all the galleries from my old site parallel to the new ones?

2. Is there a way to copy the style and settings from the old site to the new one?

On begurvillas.com

As this is just a wordpress file I guess i need to create a wordpress theme and install it on my site.

1. What are the advantages of BL2 over CE4 WP theme? - I'm wondering if it is worth the trouble
2. Again can I copy all the settings from the old theme to the new one? I'd like to keep the look of the site

Thanks for the advice.

Rod, you are spot on, I also noticed that the hide title plugin had stoped working, removing it fixed the other issue.

Thanks for your help

Rather than using the menus that I created in Lightroom, I have over written them using wordpress. I have just noticed that they appear different on different pages on my site. Any ideas why that may be?

#37 Re: CE4 Pages » SPAM on CE4 » 2019-01-07 02:27:57

Thanks Rod, sorted now, I am using publisher but to be honest had forgotten how the templates worked. I have now created a new template for autoindex and galleries uploaded them by FTP and selected them using Lightroom.

#38 Re: CE4 Pages » SPAM on CE4 » 2019-01-06 20:40:57

I have got that working on the top level Rod, thank you.

contact on the the top menu of http://www.peterblandford.com now links to http://www.blog.peterblandford.com/contact/

However in the individual galleries and albums the old menu is still there.

Is there a quick way of changing all of the menus is the galleries?

I'm sure it has something to do with autoindex and have gone as far as exporting a new autoindex gallery, but I can't remember what is next

You could create a new Contact Page in WordPress and use one of the many available contact form plugins. Look for one that can incorporate Captcha.
Contact Form 7 is free and can use ReCAPTCHA

Thank Rod, I'll try that

Hi guys,

I have started getting SPAM to my contact page on www.peterblandford.com. I understand Backlight is better at handling SPAM and it's on my to do list but I haven't got time to sort it at the moment.

Is there anything I can do to more successfully block spam on CE4?

If you have an old email containing a link to CE4 Pages, you might be able to use that. Otherwise, you'll have to contact Matt directly. You can use the form on the Support page.

I've done that, in the meantime, not sharing resources also works.

I found the problem, jQuery is not being loaded.

It looks like your template is using the "Share Resources with TTG CE4 Pages feature. The template is looking for version 1.11.3

<script src="http://www.peterblandford.com/lib/js/jquery-1.11.3.min.js"></script>

But your installation of Pages is using version 1.11.0

<script src="http://www.peterblandford.com/lib/js/jquery-1.11.0.min.js"></script>

The version of Pages you're running is 7.0.12 and the last version of Pages was 7.0.15

So to fix this, you'll need to either download the latest version of Pages and then export and re-upload your Pages installation
-OR-
turn the Shared Resources feature off in your album template (Output Settings), re-export, and re-upload the template.

Thanks for your perseverance Rod

How do I get the latest version of pages? I have tried logging in here  http://theturninggate.net/support/

But my usual email and password do not work and the forgotten password link does not work either.

sorry, but I've got no clue. Matt will need to take a look.

how about trying a different thumbnail layout and see what happens?

Bingo! - It is the masonry that seems to be creating a problem

I see the spinning happening in the template too. I noticed that there's an apostrophe in the page title. I seem to remember something about problems with that in the distant past, though I'm not sure it was related to CE4 Gallery or what. Anyway, try sanitizing as much of the template as you can, including removing or changing the gallery title in Lightroom. Re-export and re-upload the template.

Thanks for your help again Rod, I'm sorry but I do not see an apostrophe, where do you see that? I have tried recreating a template but can not see anything that needs sanitizing?

Sorry, found it, trying now

I have just migrated my website peterblandford.com to a new host, although I think this is unrelated.

I can create and publish new galleries into the new site using an old template with no problems. However, the menu bar on my site has changed slightly so I created a new gallery with lightroom with the format I needed. I exported it to and uploaded it to
/peterblandford.com/ttg-be/templates/gallery using FTP.

It all seems to work fine until I publish the new gallery with publisher on Lightroom and I get a spinning wheel with no pictures coming up http://www.peterblandford.com/galleries … otos/test/

If I use one of my old gallery templates it works fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks Rod, I think you have found the problem!

Looking via FTP I have somehow messed up the file structure when copying the galleries over

Sorting it now
