#26 Re: CE4 Gallery » lost download icon with gallery 6.17 » 2015-08-15 02:44:45

Other than the produced files, what is it that publisher accomplishes by producing the files as opposed to using the Appearances:Image Download control does not.  You mentioned search as a possible reason why this isnt working out anymore.  I cant seem to follow how the difference works out.  I see that your call for the download icon is much more complicated now than it was before in 615 as well as how publisher deals with renditions, but what else has changed, or maybe more accurately what is the new call doing that the old did not.   Still trying to find a way around this.  I really like using publisher and having the freedom to use whatever file I like as the download option.  Personally search is much less of a priority.  All these pages are client pages so search is disabled so as to not cross between clients, or serve files that are protected.

One solution, albeit not an ideal one, is to not use Publisher for those galleries that require TIFF downloads

Yeah, not ideal.  I also don't like that publishers jpg file doesn't match my exported jpg file in size even with the exact same px dimensions, ppi, and quality setting (they are close but there is between a .25 to .5% difference). I don't want my clients to question the file size difference between that and their hardcopy (CD/DVD/USB stick) I send them.  I'll have to remember to replace the publisher file with the one i want.  Easy enough when I have already been adding it manually.

I'm trying to figure out  where the difference lays between a publisher gallery with published images and a gallery with manual images.  I put the photos-for-download as the folder in Appearance:Image Download and have been comparing the files and have found only a difference in the setup.xml life.  There is an extra <rendition> in the publisher one.  I don't quite follow how letting publisher create the files changes why it decides to put the icon there or not for manual files.

Reading through all this code is complex.  I'm quite impressed Matthew.

This is probably a side-effect of the 6.1.6 update:

Fixed image download buttons in search results.

So you're probably going to have to use CE4 Publisher to create the files, as I don't think there's any conceivable way that we can support both manually uploaded files and functional downloads in search results. If you don't like the 5000px limit on the sliders, then open the exported template and edit the setup.xml file to contain your desired values for the downloadable rendition.

When I have publisher create the downloadable jpg files the download icon appears as it should.  The full view icon is white as it is supposed to be as well.

Now I also have galleries that have tif files to download for clients as well (a few even have other formats as well based on client need).  Am I not going to be able to set those files as the downloadable files?

since you were using Publisher I assumed you were using that setting as it's the only one that should affect downloads.

are the file names for the downloadable renditions exactly the same as those in the album?

Yeah they are.  The Publisher album contains my final client tif files which is also what I use to export the jpg files I upload.

I can't duplicate the problem. I tried 6.1.7 with a Magnific template with Publisher downloads enabled.

You've got Image Downloads via Publisher enabled in Output Settings?

publisher-downloads.jpg

I don't use this setting in publisher. I manually create the downloadable files, then upload them to the correct folder set under the Appearance:Image Download. But yes the Image downloads are enabled, dl buttons are enabled as well and the folder/type are set. It is strange, exactly the same settings and template from 615, and exhibiting very different behavior.

The 5000 pixel limit was a problem for client files when I use high Mpx cameras ie Medium format backs and now my 50Mpx Canon.  Even my 5d2/3 produced files bigger than 5000px wide. If it would publish 1:1 regardless of the size I would be happy to do it your way.

So anybody else with this problem?  I cant seem to get it to work.  If I return to 615 It works fine.  But for me 617 will not display dl links when used with publisher.

#32 Re: CE4 Gallery » lost download icon with gallery 6.17 » 2015-08-08 00:32:22

Yes that sample gallery has no images linked to download, but the icon shows up since the gallery is set to have dl files.  On my site using publisher both the galleries here have files to dl and use the same template as 617 above, but they never show.  Download links dont show with any of my galleries that are set to use them. using gallery 617, publisher 231, pages 7014a.

Great!  there is always something.  Now that pages is updated most everything works, but i still l dont get download links to show in the publisher driven galleries.  Its in the template. (same template the produced the 617 gallery above)

Having other issues as well.  a comparison of the same gallery in v 615 and 617 exported with the same preset

The bottom bar does not lock to the bottom in 617 and when you sellect it to see it full page magnific popup doesnot start.  its the same with highslide selected as well.  Both work in 615 just fine.  The download icons seem to be showing up when i export a straight gallery but when used as a template for publisher they do not show.

617 is not working for me either independently or as a template for publisher.  returning to 615 fixes everything.

I seem to have lost the download icon with my update to gallery 6.17.   In lightroom it is enabled and shows up.  The template is saved for publisher to use.  But the icon doesn't appear on the web.  Help please.

Having a little trouble with the fotomoto integration.  The publisher driven gallery has fotomoto setup with my correct id key, images are set to be checked in on page load and the add to cart button on grid is selected.  In the gallery nothing happens when you click the icon.  See the link.
http://ce4.studiothomas.org/galleries/c … eddingday/

inspecting it in the firefox console under js i get a "ReferenceError: FMJQ is not defined   fotomoto.js:1".  Not sure what that means, but maybe it will help?

Using Gallery 6.1.0a

edit - temporarily removed to publish to client

#37 Re: CE4 Stage » Different Galleria configurations for standard v mobile » 2014-09-16 23:32:40

Good catch that.  Thank you.  Any others I missed.  I did steal the screen width thing from somewhere else in the script maybe I should add it there too.

#38 Re: CE4 Stage » Different Galleria configurations for standard v mobile » 2014-09-13 07:32:02

So I got my hands dirty and edited the template_index.php file in my publisher driven galleria slideshows.

Where the php makes the call to run galleria i added some variables that I set to the standard then an if statement that checks for the screen width and sets the variables I want changed for mobile, then call those variables in the Galleria.configure.  This gave the the ability to have different setups for galleria and optimize for mobile.  The differences are subtle but make a difference.  And i couldn't figure out how to get this into css or a phplugin.  Not elegant and has its downfalls, but it works.

$GalleriaHeight  = .453125;
$GalleriaimageCrop = "height";

if (screen.width < 768 || navigator.userAgent.match(/Android|Blackberry|SymbianOS|iPhone|iPod|iPad/i)){
    $GalleriaHeight = 0.66;
    $GalleriaimageCrop = "landscape";
}

Galleria.loadTheme("<?php echo TTG_SITE; ?>lib/galleria/galleria.ce4.min.js");
Galleria.run("#galleria");
Galleria.configure({

    autoplay: 3000,
    clicknext: true,
    fullscreenCrop: false,
    height: $GalleriaHeight,
    imageCrop: $GalleriaimageCrop,
    imagePan: false,
    initialTransition: "fade",
    maxScaleRatio: 1,
    pauseOnInteraction: true,
    showCounter: true,
    showImagenav: true,
    showInfo: false,
    thumbnails: false,
    touchTransition: "fadeslide",
    transition: "fade",
    transitionSpeed: 400,
    _showFullscreen: true,
    _showPlay: true
});

This is pretty cool!  Not sure if it can be done but do you think you could change the Before/After tags to Male/Female?  Really genius.

#40 Re: CE4 Publisher » Publisher and custom thumbnails » 2014-09-11 23:05:00

So I think I figured it out.  In publisher the 'Custom' option under Cover Image sets the autoindex.xml file to 'custom_thumbnails/'.  You then place any custom thumbnail there in that folder which was automatically created with the gallery.  Now that I've done, it seems very straightforward.   By Custom, I guess I assumed (bad) that it meant it would use whatever I had set in the template for thumbnail folders.   I can't set my own folder.  You are totally correct that the template autoindex is completely irrelevant.  But this is actually easier, I don't have to remember anything.  Just put the custom thumb file in the right spot, select custom and viola, custom thumbnail.  It works great if you follow those simple steps.  Just didn't see it explained that way in the tutorials.  Thanks.

#41 Re: CE4 Publisher » Publisher and custom thumbnails » 2014-09-11 06:08:12

It is not the album set that is having the issue rather the album itself.

The heirichy is a publisher managed album set (autoindex - using fully manual custom thumbnails that the template correctly points to) of clients, a publisher managed sub album set listing client projects (autoindex - also working correctly with full manual thumbnails), and then publisher managed galleries of each project.  This is where the problem is.  I cannot get the gallery to point to the 'custom_thumbnails/' folder.  It drops it out of the autoindex.xml file every time even though the template has it in it.

http://ce4.studiothomas.org/galleries/client-access/

The folder structure gets pretty deep.

under "Modern Luxury" you will see the thumb working correctly but only if I go in and change the autoindex.xml file as explained above.  under "Peirce" you will see it not working correctly because publisher dropped out the thumbnail line in the autoindex.xml.  Remember the template has it in it.  and when exported directly it works, just not when using publisher to push the images.  Hope that clears thing up a bit.

I'm having trouble with publisher and my custom thumbnails.  The gallery is set to use 'custom_thumbnails/' which is the folder automagically created by gallery.  First thing I noticed is that the folder name had an underscore rather then a hyphen which was my initial setting because it was a default in the Gallery plugin so i changed the hyphen to underscore and voila my gallery had custom thumbnails.  Using it as a template for publisher led to other issues.  Publisher never seems to put the 'custom_thumbnails/' into the autoindex.xml file when I publish an album. I have to manually add it, and then of course you go to update the gallery and there goes my edited autoindex.xml file.  The template on the server has 'custom_thumbnails/' in its autoindex.xml file so it looks like it should work. But every published gallery with it doesn't reference the correct folder.

I'm totally confused and could use a little help.

When using a Galleria Slideshow in Stage CE3 broke down much nicer on mobile.  The switch to a simple gallery presention worked better at mobile screen dimensions.  Trying to figure out how to shoehorn a gallery presentation into the mobile place.  Cant seem to figure it out yet though.

Having a problem with the masonry elastic style.  My site has the page container set to auto to fill to the width of the browser.  The Block is then fixed to 1140.  When using the Masonry, Elastic style it fills to the page container not the block.  The Masonry, Rigid works correctly and is bound by the fixed Block at 1140.  Is this intended or am I just missing something.

Is there any way to have separate galleria configurations for desktop v mobile.  In Pages there was no direct way but I could modify the mobile php to the correct configuration so the home page renders correctly.  Specifically the height:ratio and imageCrop tags.  But that is not an option for Stage.

#47 Re: CE4 Showcase » Yet an other CE4 site » 2014-08-24 00:23:17

Very nice.   Really like how well it breaks down in mobile.   Care to share how you did the mobile vertical navigation?  It looks so smooth it really allows for a nice transition to the nav panel.

#48 Re: CE4 Pages » max-width limitation » 2014-07-22 13:39:55

very true for file size but with the advent of higher and higher resolutions what are we going to do.  sites designed around 1280 screens breakdown at high resolutions as well as you leave a lot of space wasted.  bandwidth of course is an issue with large file sizes but video dwarfs what we are talking here.  the site is responsive enough to only send the size image required correct, so if the images were set that large the site only sends an image sized appropriately for the display?  or am i completely incorrect there.  would you have to have a smart screen check and use separate images for resolutions that high?

While this may seem extreme I have begun designing the site around 4k resolutions.  Several of my clients (architects) have switched to 4k monitors for their work and they run them in native resolution all the time.  The limit of 2500px doesn't quite make it to these resolutions, as well as the 2880 max large image width.  Not that I absolutely need it at the moment but is this a possible future to extend these limits to the 3860 or 4096 of 4k?

#50 Re: CE4 Pages » Home galleria slideshow cannot find images » 2014-07-22 02:34:48

Finally discovered the issue.  I had a line in my htaccess file RewriteRule .*\.(jpg|jpeg|gif|png|bmp)$ - [F,NC].  Comment it out and everything works fine.  Not sure where it came from or if it is mistyped.  I know it is usually to prevent hotlinking.  But everything works without it.  Strange how CE3 worked just fine with it though.
